We are delighted to announce we are now accepting applications for the PhD in Art & Design (with a Specialisation in Architecture). This innovative doctoral programme is open to students across a wide range of art and design disciplines, including architecture. Supervision at the GSA is carried out by Prof Lesley Lokko and Dr Finzi Saidi. See below for our handy guide to making an application.

The PhD Programme at the GSA is part of the faculty-wide PhD in Art & Design, offered through all the eight departments of the Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture. We offer two different routes to a doctorate in architecture: either through the combination of designing and writing, where the thesis consists of a project and a text that share a research theme and a productive relationship, or through a more conventional text-based approach. In both cases, the thesis must be an original and creative piece of research into an area of a student's selection and definition. In the former, the 'project' component may be drawn, filmed, built or make use of appropriate media.
