Take the next step in your architectural career, further your knowledge with a postgraduate degree.
The new PhD programme at the GSA is part of a faculty-wide PhD in Art & Design, offered throughout the eight departments of the Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture (FADA). There is limited capacity within the GSA for secondary supervision but applicants are encouraged to nominate secondary supervisors from other institutions and negotiate terms and conditions. Owing to staffing capacity, we do not anticipate offering this course until 2020.
The PhD Programme at the GSA is part of the faculty-wide PhD in Art & Design, offered through all the eight departments of the Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture. We offer two different routes to a doctorate in architecture: either through the combination of designing and writing, where the thesis consists of a project and a text that share a research theme and a productive relationship, or through a more conventional text-based approach. In both cases, the thesis must be an original and creative piece of research into an area of a student's selection and definition. In the former, the 'project' component may be drawn, filmed, built or make use of appropriate media.
